Couples Boudoir for Valentine's Day in Salt Lake City

Couples boudoir is the fastest-growing part of our Valentine's season, and every year we notice the same thing: the photographs are not really why people book it. They book it for the hour, and the images turn out to be the receipt.

What is a couples boudoir session? A private, fully guided photography session for two in our all-female Salt Lake City studio. The session fee is $449 and includes professional hair and makeup, several sets, and a gallery of 200–400 images at a same-day reveal. Neither of you needs any experience.

Why this one is different from the minis

Our ten Valentine's mini sets are solo sessions — thirty minutes, one person, one set. Couples boudoir is a full session instead, because two people need more time, more direction and more room than a half-hour slot allows.

That also means it isn't tied to the six Valentine's Fridays. Our Valentine's sets live in the studio year-round, so you can book a couples session in the middle of March and still shoot roses and candlelight.

What actually happens

You arrive together. Hair and makeup happen in the studio, which takes the pressure off and gives you both an hour to settle before a camera is anywhere near you. Then we shoot — several sets, guided pose by pose, with as much or as little skin as you're comfortable with.

The first ten minutes are usually awkward. We expect that and we plan for it. Then something shifts, almost always at the same point: when the direction gets specific enough that you stop performing and start actually responding to each other.

What we hear afterwards

Some version of this, nearly every time: we haven't looked at each other that long in years.

That's the real product. An hour with no phones, no logistics, no children asking questions through a door, and somebody actively directing your attention onto the other person. The images are lovely. The hour is the thing.

What to wear

Matching outfits look staged, so don't. Coordinate tones instead — black with black, or one of you in white and one in something deeper.

  • For her: lace, a slip, a bodysuit, or his shirt over lingerie.
  • For him: plain black or white briefs or boxer-briefs, jeans, or an open button-down. Fitted, not baggy.
  • For both: nothing brand-new that hasn't been worn in, and nothing with a visible logo.

Our closet is available to both of you, and our what to wear guide covers this in more detail.

Every pose is guided — neither of you has to know what to do.

If he's reluctant

He usually is, and he usually stops being reluctant about fifteen minutes in. It's worth telling him three specific things beforehand: the team is entirely female, nobody else is in the building, and he will not be asked to do anything he hasn't agreed to.

The other thing that helps is being honest that this was your idea and that it matters to you. Most partners who arrive resistant were resistant because they assumed they'd be bad at it, not because they didn't want to be there.

Booking

The session fee is $449 and includes hair and makeup, wardrobe support, guided posing and a same-day reveal. Images and artwork are chosen afterwards rather than prepaid — ten digitals from $800, collections from $1,895, with payment plans available.

Valentine's is our busiest couples window, so it's worth booking six to eight weeks ahead if you want a date near the 14th.

Couples questions

How much is a couples boudoir session in Utah?

The session fee is $449 and includes professional hair and makeup, several sets, guided posing and a same-day reveal. Images and artwork are chosen afterwards, starting at $800 for ten digital images.

Is couples boudoir available as a mini session?

No. The ten Valentine's mini sets are solo sessions. Couples boudoir is a full session because two people need more time and direction than a thirty-minute slot allows.

Do we have to be naked?

No. You choose the comfort level, and plenty of couples shoot fully clothed or close to it. Nothing happens that you haven't agreed to first.

My partner is nervous. Will that be obvious in the photos?

Usually not past the first ten minutes. Every pose is directed, so neither of you has to invent anything, and most partners who arrive reluctant settle quickly once they realise that.

Can we book couples boudoir outside the Valentine's season?

Yes. Our Valentine's sets live in the studio year-round, so a couples session can be booked any time and still use roses and candlelight.
