When to Book Valentine's Boudoir (And the One Date That Matters)

The deadline for a Valentine's gift is not Valentine's Day. It is the day your album has to be ordered, and this season that date is January 5 — which is a great deal earlier than almost anybody expects.

When should I book a Valentine's boudoir session? If you want a printed album or wall art by February 14, book Friday, December 18 — the only album-safe session of the season. Hand-made products must be ordered by January 5, and your reveal happens the same day you shoot. Later dates deliver digitally, well before the 14th.

Why January 5 and not February

Albums, wall art and folio boxes aren't printed on demand. They're built by hand, and that takes several weeks before anything ships. Working backwards from February 14, the last safe order date lands on January 5.

The second piece is our reveal timing. You see your gallery and choose your artwork the same day you shoot — which is lovely, and also means your session date is your order date. There's no window afterwards to think about it and still make the deadline.

Put those together and you get one album-safe Friday: December 18.

The season, and what each date can deliver

Six Fridays

  • Friday, December 18 — Rosé & Roses · Red Room & Roses — album safe
  • Friday, January 8 — Roses & Lace · Cupid — digital
  • Friday, January 15 — Sweetheart Kitchen · Bows & Bears — digital
  • Friday, January 22 — Bound In Red · His Shirt — digital
  • Friday, January 29 — Rosé & Roses · The Heartbreak Club — digital
  • Friday, February 5 — Red Room & Roses · Petals & Shadow — digital

Digital delivery means your five retouched images arrive comfortably before February 14. It does not mean a printed product arrives with them.

"Digital only" is not a downgrade

Worth saying plainly, because the phrase sounds like a compromise and mostly isn't.

Your five images are full-resolution, professionally retouched, and yours to print anywhere you like. Plenty of women order a print locally and frame it themselves in a week. What you can't get on a January date is our hand-made album by the 14th — and if you order one anyway, it arrives in March and turns out to be for you rather than for the holiday. That's usually how it goes regardless.

If December 18 is already full

Two options, both reasonable.

Book a January date and give the digital images. Print one yourself, frame it, and let the album follow later.

Give a gift certificate. She picks her own date, her own set and her own comfort level. If the session is a gift for someone else rather than something you're doing yourself, this is very often the better call anyway.

How far ahead to book generally

Six to eight weeks before any date that matters. That isn't scarcity marketing — it's how long it takes to plan wardrobe properly, get the date you actually want, and not spend the fortnight beforehand rushing.

For a full session rather than a mini, the same maths applies with more room, because full sessions aren't restricted to the six Fridays. Our Valentine's sets are in the studio year-round, so you can shoot roses and candlelight in April if you want to.

Blushed Boudoir is Utah's largest private all-female luxury boudoir studio — 4,500 square feet and 30+ signature sets at 629 S State Street in downtown Salt Lake City. We've photographed more than 1,500 women and bring nearly 40 years of combined experience. We serve Salt Lake City, Provo, Ogden, Park City and St. George, plus clients travelling in from Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada and Arizona.

Timing questions

When is the deadline to book Valentine's boudoir?

For a printed album or wall art by February 14, book Friday December 18. Hand-made products must be ordered by January 5, and reveals happen the same day as your session.

What happens if I book a January date?

Your five retouched digital images arrive well before February 14. Physical products ordered on those dates arrive after the holiday.

Can I still give a gift if I've missed December 18?

Yes. Give the digital images and print one yourself, or give a gift certificate so she chooses her own date and set.

How far in advance should I book a boudoir session generally?

Six to eight weeks before any date that matters, so there's time to plan wardrobe and get the date you want.

Are Valentine's sets available outside the six Fridays?

Yes, as a full session. The Valentine's sets live in our studio year-round, so a full session can shoot them at any time of year.
