Boudoir photography workshop in Salt Lake City

One full day, two models, professional hair and makeup on set, and four built sets inside a 4,500 sq ft studio. $1,497, and you leave with portfolio images you own.

Scared you'll spend the day watching someone else shoot? Six seats is the whole point. You are behind the camera for most of the day — demos are short, then it's your turn.

The day

What actually happens at the workshop

Nine in the morning to roughly six at night. Lunch is brought in so nobody loses an hour to finding food.

019:00 am

Walk the studio before anyone gets dressed

Every set, lit and styled, with the reasoning out loud — why this corner, why that lamp, what each set cost and what it earns back.

029:45 am

Lighting, taught on the sets you're about to shoot

One light moved five ways. Window light, moody and low, clean and bright. You see the setting, the modifier and the result side by side.

0311:00 am

Posing and directing a woman who has never modeled

The actual language used in a session — what to say when she freezes, how to move her without touching her, and how to pose the body in front of you rather than the body in a Pinterest photo.

0412:30 pm

You shoot. Rotating sets, both models.

The longest block of the day. Hair and makeup change the look between rotations, and you get help at your shoulder while you work, not afterwards.

054:00 pm

The money half nobody teaches

Pricing, the consult call, the reveal appointment and how a session becomes a $2,000 sale without a pushy pitch. Bring your real numbers.

065:15 pm

Editing and going home with a plan

A live edit of images shot that day, then each photographer leaves with three specific things to change in their own business.

The studio

Four sets in one day, not one hotel suite

Most boudoir workshops rent an Airbnb for the weekend. You learn one window and one bed, then you go home to a space that looks nothing like it.

This is 4,500 square feet with more than thirty built sets — a clawfoot tub, a rain room, an all-red bedroom, a Victorian bedchamber, a poker lounge. You'll shoot four of them, and you'll see how a set gets designed, lit and turned around between looks.

If set building is the part you came for, there's a set design consult that goes deeper on your own space.

Who the workshop is for

Come if

  • You shoot in manual and want to add boudoir properly
  • You already shoot boudoir and your prices are stuck
  • You want to see a real studio run, not a rented room
  • You learn by doing, not by watching a screen

Don't come if

  • You've never shot in manual mode
  • You want to watch rather than shoot
  • You're looking to copy a brand rather than build your own
Getting here

Traveling in for the workshop

The studio is at 629 S State Street in downtown Salt Lake City, about twenty minutes from the airport. Entry is through the alleyway grey door.

Photographers fly in from Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada and Arizona for this. Downtown hotels sit within a few minutes' drive and parking is easy. Fly in the night before — the day starts at nine and you don't want to be doing it on a 6am flight.

Bring: your camera, two lenses you actually use, a laptop for the edit block, and your current pricing.

Questions

Boudoir photography workshop FAQ

Do I shoot, or just watch?

You shoot. The largest block of the day is rotating through the sets with both models while you get help at your shoulder. Six seats exists so that everyone is working, not queueing.

Can I use the images in my portfolio?

Yes. Models are contracted with a release for workshop attendees, so anything you shoot that day can go on your website, your social and into your marketing.

Do I need to have shot boudoir before?

No. Portrait, wedding and family photographers come to add boudoir. You do need to be comfortable in manual mode, because the day teaches light, posing and business rather than exposure basics.

What gear should I bring?

Your camera and two lenses you genuinely use — a 35mm and an 85mm is the common pair. Lighting and modifiers are provided. Bring a laptop for the editing block.

Is hair and makeup included?

Yes, for the models. A professional artist works on set all day, which also lets you see how HMU timing fits a real session schedule.

Are there payment plans?

Yes. A $500 deposit holds the seat and the rest can be split before the date. Text and ask — plans are arranged individually rather than through a fixed schedule.

What if I need to cancel?

Seats transfer to another date, or to another photographer, up to 30 days out. Inside 30 days the seat is offered to the waitlist first and refunded if it sells.

Will you teach photographers in my city?

Yes. There's no protected territory here. Boudoir is a local business and your clients were never going to fly to Utah.

Is lunch included?

Yes, lunch and drinks are brought in so the day doesn't lose an hour.

What if I'd rather have the day to myself?

That's the one-on-one mentorship instead — same studio, built entirely around what's stuck in your business. Text MENTOR for the details.

Can I bring a second shooter or assistant?

Only as a paid seat. Six people in the room is a hard limit, and an extra body with a camera is a seat.

How far is the studio from the airport?

About twenty minutes. The studio is at 629 S State Street in downtown Salt Lake City, with hotels within a few minutes.
