When to Book Maternity Boudoir in Utah (The Best Weeks of Pregnancy

Maternity Boudoir · Utah

Maternity boudoir in Utah is all about timing — and the single most common question we hear is "how far along should I be?" The short answer: most mamas book their session between 20 and 28 weeks, when your bump is beautifully round but you're still comfortable enough to move, pose, and enjoy every minute.

The sweet spot: 20–28 weeks

Before 20 weeks, your bump often hasn't fully "read" on camera yet — it's there, but it doesn't tell the story the way it will a few weeks later. After about 30 weeks, many mamas start to feel the swelling, the fatigue, and the "I'm ready to meet this baby" restlessness that makes lying and arching for the camera less fun. The window in between is where you get the best of both: a gorgeous, unmistakable bump and a body that still feels like it wants to play.

Carrying multiples or measuring ahead? We'll usually nudge you a little earlier — think 18–24 weeks — because everything arrives sooner. If you're not sure where you'll land, that's exactly what your private consult is for.

Your bump is only this exact shape for a matter of weeks. Maternity boudoir is how you keep it.

How far ahead should you reserve?

Here's the part first-time mamas don't always realize: you book the date long before you're in the ideal week. Because our sessions include hair, makeup, wardrobe planning, and a fully guided experience, popular dates fill quickly — and pregnancy doesn't wait. We recommend reserving as soon as you're comfortably into your second trimester so you can hold a date that lands right in your sweet spot. If you're already past 28 weeks, don't panic — reach out now and we'll find the soonest slot that still flatters your timeline.

Planning around your due date

Count backward, not forward. Take your due date, subtract six to eight weeks, and that's roughly your target session window. Building in that cushion protects you from an early arrival and gives us time to design your images, order any albums or wall art, and get everything into your hands before baby does. Nobody wants their maternity album to arrive during those blurry newborn weeks.

What if you're past the "ideal" window?

We photograph mamas at 36, 38, even 39 weeks — and they're stunning. The 20–28 guideline is about your comfort, not a hard rule. If you're further along and glowing and ready, we will absolutely make it work with plenty of supported, seated, and reclined posing. And if baby comes before we can make it happen, our postpartum and motherhood sessions are every bit as powerful.
