How to Prepare for a Boudoir Session (Everything You Need to Know)

Almost every woman who walks into our studio says the same thing:

“I’m so nervous.”

And almost every woman leaves saying:

“That was one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself.”

If you are preparing for your first boudoir session, chances are you are excited… but also overthinking absolutely everything.

What if you don’t know how to pose? What if you feel awkward? What if you hate every photo?

Here’s the truth: You do not need modeling experience. You do not need to know angles. You do not need to be confident before walking in.

That’s our job.

This guide walks you through exactly how to prepare for your Utah boudoir session so you can walk in feeling relaxed, confident, and fully taken care of.

First Things First: You Do Not Need to Change Yourself

You do not need to:

  • Lose weight first

  • Have perfect skin

  • Know how to pose

  • Be “good at photos”

  • Wear tiny lingerie

  • Look like Instagram models

Boudoir is not about perfection.

It’s about confidence, self-connection, healing, femininity, power, and seeing yourself differently.

If you are still unsure whether boudoir is right for you, we highly recommend reading Is Boudoir Worth It?.

What Happens Before Your Session

Once you officially book your session with Blushed Boudoir, you’ll receive:

  • A prep guide

  • Wardrobe planning help

  • Session information

  • Studio recommendations

  • Tips for hair, skin, and nails

  • Guidance on what photographs best

We help guide you through everything beforehand so you never feel like you are figuring this out alone.

You can also explore our complete Experience Page to see exactly how the process works.

Hair and Makeup Day

One of the best parts of the experience?

You do not have to come camera-ready.

Professional hair and makeup are included with most sessions at our Salt Lake City boudoir studio.

This gives you time to:

  • Relax

  • Get pampered

  • Ease into the experience

  • Feel confident before stepping in front of the camera

Our team keeps the energy upbeat, fun, supportive, and relaxed.

Most clients say this is the moment their nerves finally start disappearing.

How to Prep Skin, Hair, and Nails

A few simple things can make a huge difference before your session:

A Few Days Before

  • Moisturize regularly

  • Avoid spray tans you haven’t tested

  • Hydrate

  • Get plenty of sleep

  • Avoid tight clothing before your session

Nails

Neutral nails photograph best, but honestly? Choose something that feels like you.

Hair

Freshly washed dry hair is ideal unless otherwise instructed by your stylist.

What to Bring

We recommend bringing:

  • 3–5 outfit options

  • Heels if you have them

  • Accessories

  • Bridal details if applicable

  • Oversized sweaters or button-ups

  • Jewelry

  • Confidence

And if you are panicking about outfits, stop and read our full What to Wear for a Boudoir Photoshoot guide.

You Do NOT Need to Know How to Pose

This is one of the biggest fears women have.

You are not expected to walk in knowing what to do with your hands.

At all.

Every pose is fully guided.

We direct:

  • Hands

  • Toes

  • Chin

  • Expressions

  • Breathing

  • Body positioning

Your job is simply to show up.

Nervousness Is Completely Normal

We photograph women every single day who say:

  • “I almost cancelled.”

  • “I’m awkward.”

  • “I’ve never done this before.”

  • “I’m not photogenic.”

And then they see themselves differently for the first time in years.

That transformation is why we love boudoir photography so much.

Your Same-Day Image Reveal

After your session, you’ll come back in to view your images.

This is often the most emotional part of the experience.

Most women are shocked by what they see because they finally view themselves through a completely different lens.

You only purchase what you love.

You can learn more about collections, albums, and luxury artwork on our Pricing Page.

You Deserve to Exist in Photos Too

So many women spend years hiding from cameras, waiting until they feel “ready.”

But confidence rarely comes before the experience.

Sometimes it comes because of it.

If you are ready to finally do something for yourself, you can learn more about our Utah Boudoir Sessions or reserve your date directly through our Booking Page.
